The fashion journal made its appearance in the latter part of the 19th century and with it, the fashionable boot strode through its pages. Once considered suitable mainly for work or war, the high boot first became the popular choice for women in the 1880s. The look of its laces, pulling the boot closed, mimics the corsets of the era and the lacy uppers of the boot, hidden by the skirt, are also suggestive of undergarments. This boot maintains its ladylike presence with a sturdy leather support. Lovely to look at and easy to walk in, this boot really puts its foot down on firm ground to give woman an emerging freedom to stroll, participate in life's activities, and still makea fashion statement. © Raine 1999
